Numerical Modeling of Mine Hoist Disc Brake Temperature for Safer Operation

The sustainable exploitation of raw materials, with improved safety and increased productivity, is closely linked to the development mechanical mining installations. Mine hoists are designed for transport material, equipment personnel between mine surface underground. hoist braking system paramount importance in its safe operation. Thus, both drum disc brake systems, temperature friction surfaces important ensuring efficient braking, as exceeding threshold causes a decrease capacity. In this paper we present numerical calculation model case emergency braking. A real-scale was built, based on cable drive wheel hoisting machine used Romania. Real material characteristics were imposed discs, pads. simulation performed decelerations 3, 3.5, 4 4.5 m/s2. analysis shows that regardless acceleration time simulated, reaches maximum after 1.35 s This value does not exceed 327 °C limit where, according previous studies, power starts fade. It means masses under consideration, studied hoist.
